Over 10,000 Cubic Metres of woodchip covering approximately 80,000 square metres, was collected from different sources and delivered to Hyde Park London in 3 days.

It was one of those occasions when all parties concerned, enthusiastically pulled together with the object of making the Hyde Park concerts actually happen despite the continuous rain.

The weather had been non stop rain for days and after the last concert Hyde Park was a mud bath. The idea was to put a substantial wood chip down that would soak up the mud and provide a base for the audience to stand safely on.

CPA Horticulture was approached to provide the woodchip oversaw the whole operation.

Over 10,000 Cubic Metres of woodchip covering approximately 80,000 square metres, was collected from different sources and delivered to Hyde Park London in 3 days.

Live Nation, the organisers, gave full backing and motivation.

Kestrel, who were in charge of receiving and laying the woochip, were incredible. They were on site from 6AM-10PM to receive the lorries, check the cargo and lay the woodchip.

With men on site at the event and at the yards, They needed ever more hauliers coming from all parts of the country – some the big giants pulling 90-120 cubic metres on walking floors – some artics carrying 50-70 cubic metre loads – to collect good quality woodchip that would soak up and stablise the mud

All worked non stop to keep the concerts live. And it worked. Very well.

CPA Horticulture would like to thank Steve Owen and Kestrel Contracters for their help organising the loads. AW Jenkinsons, Hopcroft Haulage, Deans, Country Style Group and all the hauliers for all the support and last minute re-working of schedules and the people working at the mills for staying up all night chipping the wood.
