Carlton House Terrace Completes £1m Two Year Refurbishment
Carlton House Terrace – The home of the British Academy – has just completed a million pound refurbishment that has taken over two years to complete. The refurbishment gives event organisers the ability to use both houses seamlessly as they are now interconnected on each floor.
As well as the new interconnections, the venue also benefits from three new lifts, new loos and a state of the art kitchen as well as environmentally friendly lighting and being fully DDA compliant. The auditorium now contains the latest AV equipment including a stage and microphones, plus data projection, surround sound, WiFi access and a hearing loop. To complete the look, both venues have been painted using historical colours from the 18th Century to complement the French inspired decor. A wealth of gold leaf was used to restore the gilding to its former glory and the entire refurbishment gives this glorious central London venue a truly 5 star makeover.
{10-11} Carlton House Terrace was one of the most fashionable addresses in London and is described as one of the ‘greatest terrace houses ever built.’ Indeed John Nash’s aim was to provide good views of St James’s Park and to provide an impressive backdrop to both the Royal Park and the Mall. Once the home of William Gladstone, the venue has 10 rooms to hire each with unique period features and an array of eclectic art ranging from period pieces to contemporary abstract. Organisers may have spotted the venue, which has prime views over The Mall and Horseguard’s Parade in shows such as Spooks, Dorian Gray or Bridget Jones’s Diary.
