Select Security - eventsSelect Management and Security Ltd, the first Crowd Management company in Northern Ireland to hold SIA Approved Contractor status, have today announced approval from Bucks New University to run their Certificate in Pit Training course.

The Certificate in Pit Training is recognised across the industry as the qualification required for staff working in the front of stage pit. The course teaches candidates about the origins of the pit, health and safety, procedures and working as part of a team.

Andrew McQuillan, Director, commented; “Safety at major public events is absolutely critical and this is a fantastic addition to our Training Department’s portfolio of qualifications. We were the first company in Northern Ireland to introduce the Spectator Safety Suite of qualifications for event staff. Bucks New University is recognised internationally for the quality of its courses in this field and we are delighted to now make these available to clients in Ireland.

As we have several staff studying on the Foundation Degree in Crowd Safety Management with Bucks New University, we noticed the passion and drive their staff show to enhance crowd safety internationally. This coupled with their leading research, including their pressure testing at Roskilde Festival, demonstrated to us they were an ideal partner to work with.”

Select has already begun training all of its own staff involved in Crowd Management to hold this qualification and is also offering the course to external organisations including other Crowd Management companies to help promote best practice across the Industry and drive up skills and safety standards.

Again it just goes to show how someone with no life experience can do a course at a Uni then start to teach it.
