Academy of Medical Sciences The Academy of Medical Sciences is delighted to announce the refurbishment of 41 Portland Place, London which will open in October as a prestigious venue for non residential meetings and events.

Located in the heart of London, the Grade II* listed building designed by James Adam in 1773 is close to Euston train station and a 5 minute walk from both Oxford Circus and Regents Park tube stations.

The Regency town house is currently undergoing a £5 million renovation programme and will re-open at the beginning of October as the new headquarters of the Academy of Medical Sciences, providing a home for their prestigious Fellowship and a focal point for the medical and health research community. The venue will also be open to the commercial market offering a range of facilities to accommodate meetings, conferences, private dining and non residential events.

The redevelopment programme, which commenced in January 2010, will see the removal of many unsympathetic features and partition walls which were added in the 1950’s and 1960’s to create a range of spaces that benefit from natural daylight. 41 Portland Place will offer clients a modern venue that combines state of the art conference facilities with the period elegance and grandeur of a Regency town house.

The rooms available for hire will be spread across three floors providing seven meeting rooms, an exhibition area and a purpose built conference suite. Audiovisual services, video conferencing and Wi-Fi internet will be available throughout the meeting rooms.

Located on the first floor, the elegant John Newsom-Davis Council Chamber is suitable for board meetings, small lectures, dinners and drinks receptions of up to 125 people. On the ground floor, the purpose built Wolfson Conference Suite and contemporary exhibition area can accommodate up to 100 delegates when combined. The lower ground floor also features two meeting rooms each for up to 15 delegates, ideal for small meetings and training events that require interactive white-board and video conferencing technology.

The catering service at 41 Portland Place will be provided by Harbour & Jones, one of London’s leading in house and venue caterers. As well as offering a variety of imaginative catering packages, Harbour & Jones will provide tailor-made food and catering solutions to suit every client’s budget.
