SIA training centre Tristar under review after malpractice claims
More than 200 security licences have been suspended by the Security Industry Authority (SIA) following the claims which focus on London-based training centre Tristar.
Awarding body Edexcel withdrew the level 2 BTEC award in door supervision certificates issued by Tristar. And because the qualifications have been withdrawn 211 licence holders no longer meet SIA criteria.
The suspensions will be reviewed in 90 days to give those with the licences the chance to take the course again. If they fail to do so their licences will be revoked.
SIA director of strategy and corporate services Hazel Russell said: “We take allegations of training malpractice very seriously, and in this case have taken prompt action to suspend licences after receiving information from Edexcel.”
An Edexcel spokesman said: “We found substantiated evidence of malpractice and consequently we withdrew over 200 awards.”
It is understood that Tristar plans to appeal against the decision.

RE: Awarding Body Candidate # BK70233
We write regarding your recent SIA Door Supervisor licence application which we are
currently unable to continue processing.
It has come to our attention that Edexcel have withdrawn their approval of Tristar Training
with whom you achieved your Level 2 BTEC Award in Door Supervision.
As a result your qualification is no longer valid and therefore you do not currently meet the
SIA’s qualification criteria to hold an SIA licence.
We will withdraw your licence application in 90 days unless you can evidence to us that you have obtained the necessary Door Supervision qualification via an approved training
provider or that Tristar Training has had its approval with Edexcel reinstated.
