TESS ensures Glastonbury’s 40th year is the safest ever
Glastonbury, 23rd – 28th June 2010, saw the lowest accident statistics and best medical records at its 40th birthday bash.
Dick Tee, Glastonbury Festival Production Manager:
“The ongoing proactive approach to health and safety TESS have encouraged throughout the Glastonbury Festival community has made for an ever safer site”
TESS has worked with Glastonbury since 2002 and in the past eight years has promoted a health and safety culture within the largest and most established UK festival. The most prominent change is that TESS has successfully engaged the Glastonbury suppliers in improving health and safety in their own specialist areas.
Tim Roberts from TESS explains how the festival’s health & safety runs so smoothly;
“By being realistic, positive and getting everyone on message, we have created an empathetic understanding that what we want to do is a necessary requirement and is beneficial to everyone on the event.”
This year was the first time TESS was appointed head of fire safety at Glastonbury; this new area was headed up by Mike Herbert, who developed a brand new strategy, working closely with the Devon and Somerset fire brigade. TESS was involved with everything from choosing the type of fire extinguisher to conducting 240 individual fire risk assessments on site.
TESS ensured the safety of performers, visitors and workers throughout the festival, with visually spectacular performances including, lightening created by 4million vault electricity and explosions in fountains through to creating world cup fan zone at short notice for 90,000 England fans attending the festival.
Tim Roberts, Director at TESS said;
“The 40th anniversary was exceptionally good, we had great interactions from staff and the public were unfailingly positive. Glastonbury and all the people involved have always been lovely to work with and work for.”
