REM help thousands celebrate World Cup fever in Bristol

REM seamlessly managed the Hyundai Fan Park event in Bristol’s historic Queen’s Square for the month long duration of the tournament. Bristol City Council engaged REM, who also managed the interest and expectation of sponsor Hyundai, and local police and licensing authorities, to create the Fan Park during the 2010 World Cup.

Fans of all ages enjoyed World Cup games on the 30m² giant screen in a family friendly environment. REM site managed the fan zone at every game and ensured the smooth running of all elements, from catering concessions and technical support to thorough security.

The World Cup final attracted thousands of multicultural football fans to the fan park culminating in celebrations for Spain’s first ever World Cup win. The Sunday evening final saw over 3,000 Spanish fans celebrating in style with the highest turnout for one game saw 8,000 fans attending the England v USA opening game.

REM successfully organised the procurement of all suppliers at short notice put operational and production plans together.

Mike Richmond, managing director at REM said;

“We were very pleased with how the 39 football matches in Queen Square played out; over 75,000 thousands of supporters attended throughout the tournament. The atmosphere was fantastic, a combination of World Cup excitement with a relaxed summer feel.”
