The Awards are the only annual scheme that reward and celebrate all areas of the thriving events industry in Scotland. Now in its third year, The Scottish Event Awards are going from strength-to-strength, with event organisers, promoters, in house-teams, venues and suppliers all entered the awards.

With four nominations (in the Best Sports Event, Best Cause Related/Charity Event, Best Educational Event and Best Event in an Outdoor Space categories) Cycling Scotland impressed the judging panel. As did the SECC, which was nominated for Best Product Launch, Best Large Venue, Best Marketing Strategy and also for the Green Award.

Glasgow International Piping Festival’s Piping Live 2009 is also a finalist in the Best Cultural Event, Large Event and Traditional Event categories. This event attracts a diverse audience for the week-long musical party.

Meanwhile, the MOBO Organisation received a nomination in Best Medium Event. 2009 was the first time since the event started 13 years ago that the MOBO’s have taken place out with London, resulting is a hugely successful event for the organisers, attendees, Glasgow and Scotland.

The results will be revealed at the gala awards ceremony being held on Thursday 9 September at the new Grand Central Hotel in Glasgow.

This fantastic new venue is set to open in September following a £20m refurbishment.  Dating back to 1883, the Grand Central Hotel has a long history of hosting prestigious events and was once the place to be seen for high profile guests including Cary Grant, Gene Kelly, Frank Sinatra, Laurel and John F Kennedy. The Scottish Event Awards will be one of the very first events to take place at the newly refurbished landmark.
