MARVEL SUPER HEROES 4D The 22nd of June saw the events industry launch party for Marvel Super Heroes 4D, the biggest new experience to be launched at the world famous Madame Tussauds since the re-development of the Chamber of Horrors over seven years ago. A film of the party can be viewed here: www.youtube.com/merlinevents.

The party wowed over 200 event industry professionals who were treated to a deliciously deceptive quintessential English afternoon tea, created by award-winning caterers Dish and served in the Test Zone and Hall of Heroes event spaces. Guests, served by staff dressed in butler costumes, enjoyed sweet looking eats including a selection of primary coloured sandwiches, carrot macaroons, cheese and chutney scones and beetroot and goat’s cheese cupcakes. English Garden cocktails with gin, elderflower cordial and freshly squeezed lime juice completed the tea party theme.

Following ‘afternoon tea’ guests were led to the new 4D cinema to view the 3D film short with embedded high impact “4D” effects. The film cost an impressive £4.5m to produce and had viewers captivated as heroic action flew out of the screen and into the large auditorium. Sensory designed special effects involving water, smoke, seat tremors and wind had viewers ducking and diving in their seats and screaming with delight as the action unfolded.

An all American theme followed as guests entered the A-List Party Room where a DJ and band supplied by Music By Arrangement was spinning the latest tunes and Super Hero styled waiters in black face masks and red t-shirts served guests an array of super food inspired dishes including:

Super Hulk shots – pea soup with black olive oil & gold leaf dressing
Captain America crab cakes
The Wolverine – herb crusted lamb served with homemade mint sauce served on metallic skewers

The Long Island Ice Tea cocktails certainly packed a punch and magic Merlin branded cup cakes were a sweet treat to finish off, alongside the fresh doughnuts with injectable fillings of strawberry, custard and apple.

Other suppliers included: Great Hire for the primary coloured furniture and Digital Paparazzi for the guest shots on entering the party.

Spread across three floors of the attraction’s famous domed auditorium, Marvel Super Heroes 4D took six months to bring to life. The figures and themed experience were created by Madame Tussauds’ Studios teams and unrivalled sculptors. More than 1000kgs of clay was used in the making of the Super Hero figures as well as 100 litres of oil paint to build up the accurate skin tones and 50,000 individually inserted hairs! Each figure cost £150,000.

The film has been created by one of the world leaders in CGI feature films and 4D attractions, Threshold Animation Studios, working in close collaboration with Marvel. The nine minute film presentation unites a crack team of Marvel Super Heroes – Hulk, Captain America, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Wolverine and Ms Marvel – in an all new adventure set in London, and is the first time ever that a group of Marvel Super Heroes have been brought together in a 3D film. The story took 30 draft scripts, used more than 1,000 reference photographs and notched up 13,000 hours of CGI animation time to come to the big screen. And Marvel fans should listen out for a sneaky cameo voice over from the legendary Stan Lee.
