Flooding will not stop Cockermouth Beer Festival
THE flooding of Cockermouth has failed to swamp organisers of the town’s annual real ale festival.
Determined members of the Cockermouth Round Table say the seventh Beer Festival will go on.
The event will be held at the Kirkgate which escaped the ravages of last week’s devastation. All money raised will go to helping those affected by the flood in the town.
Organiser Charles Holmes said: “It is important at this moment in time to get back to normal and try and lighten the atmosphere.
“We just want to give people the chance to get out for the night and let their hair down.”
The festival, which runs from Thursday, December 3 until next Saturday, will feature around 60 beers.
Half will be supplied by Cumbria’s 26 breweries, though others will come from Cornwall, Oxfordshire, Nottinghamshire, Staffordshire and Somerset.
The beer pumps that the charity were going to use for the event were contaminated by the flood, but the Lancaster branch of the Round Table have said they will provide substitute pumps free of charge.
The first Cockermouth Beer Festival session will take place on Thursday from 6pm-11pm and will include a pub quiz.
The festival will be open on Friday from 6pm–11pm, including live music from rock and blues band South Quay.
