Entrants race to register for The Round Britain Race 2012 (SEA)
Response to the news that entry for RB12 SEA is open has been very positive. Entry opened on Fri
6th November 2009 and already 41% of places have been taken.
Two RIB manufacturers, Scorpion RIBs of Lymington, England and Goldfish Boat of Norway have
been quick to demonstrate their commitment to RB12.
Patrick Byrne, Managing Director of Scorpion RIBs commented, “RB12 has got to be one of the
greatest opportunities to showcase our boats to keen novices as well as the most knowledgeable of
enthusiasts. So after the resounding success enjoyed by Scorpion RIBʼs in the 2008 Round Britain
Offshore Powerboat Race, the company is announcing its intention to enter a factory team.
Scorpionʼs team entry is all about highlighting the companyʼs continued commitment to developing
safe and reliable boats and racing is a sure way to evaluate and fully test its products at the sharp
end”
Henrik Sollie, Marketing & Sales Manager for Goldfish Boat stated, “Goldfish won two Classes of the
2008 Round Britain Race, classes RB3 & 4. RB12 will be a great adventure with fantastic people and
provide excellent product testing!” One member of the Goldfish team is James Sydenham, from
Goldfish UK distributor Salterns Boatyard in Poole. “The factory are putting a team together and in
addition to this we have sold a 36 P1 which is now here in the UK. We will be exhibiting it at the
London Boat show in January 2010 and are pleased to announce that this boat will be participating in
the Round Britain RIB Rally 2010 and also has paid its entry for the Round Britain Power Boat Race
for 2012”
Meanwhile, planning for RB12 – Land, Sea & Air continues. Negotiations with host & stopover venues
are ongoing, with confirmation of the start and finish location likely by March 2010. With around 1,000
competitors and 1,000 support crew likely at each venue, logistics are paramount!
RB12 Director, Neil McGrigor, commented, ” It is our responsibility to ensure that both contestants
and supporters are well looked after as this will be a very demanding event! The positive response
from boat manufacturers & individuals demonstrates the appetite for the event that so many have
registered this far ahead. Organising an event of this nature is a mammoth undertaking and with so
many registrations of interest in RB12 SEA, we felt it better to open the entry list so people can
reserve a place. We understand that communication in the lead up to the event is crucial and have
therefore decided to host a drinks reception in the RYA lounge during the London Boat Show in Jan
2010. The RB12 team will be there to give an update and to answer any questions about this unique
event.”
