Wickerman Festival up for seven awards

KIRKCUDBRIGHT’S famous Wickerman Festival has been nominated for seven prizes at the 2009 UK Festival Awards.

Commonly known as Scotland’s most family-friendly music event, The Wickerman could scoop awards from six categories following the success of the 2009 event which was held on July 24th and 25th at Dundrennan.

Wickerman festivalWickerman organiser Jamie Gilroy said of the nominations: “The Awards give recognition to an industry which is worth hundreds of millions of pounds to the UK economy.

“The Wickerman has previously won a Best Grass Roots Festival gong in 2007 and we are confident that our loyal audience will once again vote us into the festival awards final.”

The nominations are: best medium-sized festival; best family festival; best grass roots festival; best toilets; best dance event (Bass Camp); best headline performance for The Zutons and best headline performance for The Human League.
The Wickerman saw around 16,000 attendees last July and they enjoyed performances from diverse acts such as Candi Staton, Billy Bragg, The Human League and The Zutons.

The Festival Awards are decided upon by an online public vote and organised by Virtual Festivals, with the first stage of voting live now and ending on the 14th October.

A shortlist will be then be announced, and voting then takes place until the 4th November with the winners being announced in a glittering ceremony which takes place in London’s IndigO2 on the 19th November.
