MUSICIANS from across Norwich will be joining a line-up featuring top bands like Editors and Fatboy Slim as part of a month long national festival.

OxjamAnd organisers of this year’s Oxjam are calling out for musicians, venues and volunteers to get involved and set up their own events.

Oxfam’s annual month long fundraiser is the UK’s biggest musical festival, and October will see thousands of musicians across hundreds of venues come together to raise money for the charity.

In a single day more than 40 bands will play at six different city venues for the highlight, the Norwich Oxjam Takeover on October 25.

Confirmed venues are the Arts Centre, the Marquee, Mustard Lounge, Birdcage, Dragon Hall and the Norwich Puppet Theatre.

Meanwhile more than 20 musicians will set up outside The Forum for a day long acoustic Buskathon on October 10.

But volunteers and event organisers are being called on to add their support to the festival by hosting their own events to raise money and awareness.

Media and marketing manager for the Norwich festival Ashleigh Toll said: “It’s all about community and we want people to feel like they’re a part of it, whether that means just coming along or starting your own event.

“It’s an amazing charity and the music scene in Norwich is really starting to take off, it’s exciting to let people know about it, raise money and have a great time.”

The Norwich event is part of a national fundraising drive which since 2006 has seen more than 36,000 musicians play to over 750,000 people at almost 3,000 gigs – raising in excess of £1m to fight poverty around the world.

Norwich event organiser Lucy Bryant said: “The Oxjam events in Norwich are just one part of a movement of hundreds of gigs, club nights and events right across the country. It’s fantastic to be able to use the talent of local musicians to help raise so much money to fight poverty, and put on a great show at the same time.”
