Creamfields organisers set for final permanent licence appeal

| August 6, 2009 | 0 Comments More

CREAMFIELDS campaigners will go head-to-head with the event organisers at an appeal over its licensing conditions.

The festival is due to return to Daresbury for a two day-dance event during the August Bank Holiday for the fourth consecutive year.

In June, the music giants were given the go ahead to showcase this year’s line-up. But their hopes of securing a permanent licence – which would have given the organisers the green light to hold Creamfields festival at the site for the foreseeable future – was rejected.

NAG (the neighbourhood action group) spoke in objection to Jim King, of CI Events Limited, at the licensing hearing at Runcorn Town Hall, but failed to persuade Halton Borough Council to change the licensing conditions.

The group has continued to lobby on behalf of more than 150 people who objected to the event renewing its licence.

Paul Barlow, member of NAG, said: “The reasons for the appeal are that given the many representations made by residents to the original hearing – the majority of who complained about the noise impact and disturbance to sleep – as well as the objection from Warrington Borough Council on the grounds of public nuisance, it was unacceptable to us that Halton Borough Council should make no amendments to the licensing conditions to recognise and mitigate this.

“So what this means is if you suffered last year, then you are likely to suffer again.”

If the group is successful conditions such as the time the music is played until could be altered.

Two of the members will give evidence at the court case at Runcorn Magistrates’ Court on August 19.

The group remain positive and hope for a sensible and lawful response.
