Retrofest Festival organisers fuming after internet hoax.
The organisers of Retrofest music festival in Scotland are fuming after an Internet prankster convinced fans the event had been cancelled.
The festival is due to take place in Glasgow, Scotland on 28-30 August (09) and feature headline acts including Gloria Gaynor, Level 42, Sister Sledge and Rick Astley.
But fans attending the festival were thrown into a panic after a message was posted on social networking site Facebook.com, claiming the event had been axed. The news spread and festival organisers have been forced to issue a statement denying the reports.
Malcolm Cannon, organiser of the 1980s extravaganza, has condemned the hoaxer and vowed to take the matter to police.
He says, “This is causing havoc. We’ve been inundated with hundreds of calls from people complaining that they have been told the festival has been cancelled. It is going ahead as planned. We will track down the person responsible and report them to the police.
“It is a testament to Facebook that one hacker can cause so much damage.”
