Denbighshire music festival scrapped over policing

| April 15, 2009 | 0 Comments More

A cash-strapped Denbighshire music festival, has been cancelled after last year’s event saw several arrests.

Organisers of Party in the Parc at St Asaph said they could not afford to pay for policing or to improve security measures following last year’s trouble.

The event has also lost key funding, forcing organisers to cancel this year’s festival.

There was no trouble on site in 2008, but at least 10 people were arrested in other parts of the town.

Last July’s event at Roe Plas attracted an estimated 5,000 people.

During one court case which followed the scene outside a pub was described as “like the gunfight at the OK Corral”.

Denise Hodgkinson, secretary of the City of Music Group which staged the festival, said it had lost key grants because of the economic downturn and had just £600 left.

She said police told them they would have to charge a substantial amount to attend and would insist on crowd control measures, such as fencing.
