Hub Festival to Rock the Dock in Liverpool

The UK’s biggest urban youth festival is on the move – and going green.

HUB – the biggest free festival of its kind – is moving to Wellington Dock in a bid to make it a car-free event as part Liverpool’s Year of the Environment.

Up to 20,000 people are expected over the weekend of 23-24 May, and the green agenda continues with a new Wellbeing village promoting recycling and carbon-free activities.

HUB, now into its seventh year, celebrates a vibrant mix of urban art, music and extreme sports including skateboarding, BMX, in-line skating, breakdancing and body popping.

Running 11am-7pm on both days, HUB ’09 features amateur competitions, free promos, aftershow parties, and £25,000 of prize worth of give-aways.

Legends in BMX, Skateboarding, Break dancing and Beat Boxing will all add to the mix.

Liverpool City Council has also launched a search for the best bands to star at the event.

An invitation is now open to the best musicians from indie to funk, rock to soul, hip-hop to metal to send in a demo which could see them starring on its live music stage.

Susan Whitehead, Event organiser, said: “HUB has really matured now and attracts the best urban performers from around the world – and we want the best of Liverpool to perform with them. The music search is open to anyone with heaps of energy, style and passion. Only the best talent will be selected to play at what promises to be a wicked weekend.”
