Dursley Town Festival will continue
A TOWN festival that faced being axed is set to run again this year.
Organisers of the Dursley Town Festival warned that if they didn’t get enough people to help run the event they would have to drop it.
However, after a public meeting the festival committee has decided to keep the event and rename it the Cam and Dursley Carnival.
“It’s good news at the moment,” said Jane Manning, organiser of last year’s event and treasurer on the committee. “We had quite a few people turn up at the meeting to offer their help so we have decided to try and run the event again. So I feel quite positive it will go ahead this year.”
However the committee is still desperate for more people to come forward and volunteer their skills.
Miss Manning added: “We haven’t had someone come forward to take over the role of co-ordinator, but people have decided to take control of one aspect of the carnival and we think we can run it as a committee with everyone pitching in.
“We still need some more people to come forward to help out and take on a small amount of the workload.”
This year the event will be a scaled down version of the town festival, which used to run for seven days and included history walks, dance performances and a country fair.
This year it will be a one-day carnival in July with a procession and events on Dursley Recreation ground. World Jungle, a community organisation, has agreed to arrange entertainment and the Dursley and Cam Branch of the Royal British Legion will help to organise events on the field.
