Manumission forced to cancel Astoria farewell event
The planned farewell party for the Astoria in central London has been cancelled after promoters failed to get hold of the acts they wanted for the event.
The venue closes this week before being demolished to make way for the Crossrail train link which will run under the site of the 2,000-capacity theatre.
But extravagant plans by Ibiza superclub Manumussion to herald the end of the Astoria era have been axed because the tight schedule for the club’s closure proved too short for acts to be booked.
Crossrail, served 28 days notice to vacate on December 19 – the same day that most of the entertainment industry began two weeks of holidays for Christmas and New Year.
That, claim promoters Mike and Claire Manumission, made it impossible to secure the acts they wanted for the farewell party on January 15. In a statement, the Manumission founders say, “We wanted to give The Astoria the send off it deserves, we feel saddened and disappointed by the decision made to pull what could have been an amazing event, especially in these troubled times.”
However, Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. has confirmed it will curate the Demolition Ball at the Astoria on Wednesday (January 14), where the band join the like of The Automatic, My Vitriol, Frank Turner, The King Blues and VV Brown in an event that will raise proceeds for Love Music Hate Racism.
