Edinburghs New Year’s Day Triathlon event placed on ice

| January 1, 2009 | 0 Comments More

ORGANISERS of the traditional New Year’s Day Triathlon in Edinburgh are confident the event still has a future, even though this afternoon’s race may be the last for three years. The Holyrood Park event, which has attracted a record entry, starts with a swim in the Royal Commonwealth Pool, which is scheduled to close in June for refurbishment.

However plans are in place to put the triathlon on ice until 2012 with a possible outdoor summer event filling the gap. “We’re optimistic the race still has a future,” confirmed race chief Martin Irons. “It’s become so big so we’re certainly determined to continue it once the Commonwealth reopens.”
