£1m festival ‘fraudsters’

| January 7, 2009 | 0 Comments More

A gang selling fake entry wristbands for music festivals could have netted more than £1million, a court heard yesterday.

The scam was uncovered by police at the 2007 Isle of Wight Festival, which was the worst-hit event that year.

Around 5,000 counterfeit wristbands were produced for that event alone, Portsmouth crown court heard yesterday.

Sherrell Davenport, 30, and Jacob Cloud, 40, both of the Isle of Wight, pleaded not guilty to charges of conspiracy to defraud.

John Smith, 29, of Hanworth, West London, and Bradley Govier, 42, of Southend-on-Sea, Essex, earlier pleaded guilty. The trial continues.
