Oxynade raises $1.33M for European event listings

| December 16, 2008 | 0 Comments More

Oxynade, a European startup whose technology can aggregate events listings across thousands of websites, has raised $1.33 million (1 million euros) in a first round of venture funding.

The Ghent, Belgium company makes its search results available through an search engine called Happenr, which allows users to find events in a specific region or city in Europe. In addition offering a listings site for Europnean usrs, the company also makes its event data available to other web sites — for example a travel site — through an application programming interface (API). Oxynade plans to sell tickets through the Happenr site during the first quarter of next year.

It seems like there are plenty of other event sites out there — on the aggregation side, there’s now-in.org, while on the ticketing side there’s Amiando. The big difference, says Oxynade’s Robin Wauters (who also writes for TechCrunch ), is the company’s technology. Most event aggregators just pull listings from “a couple of dozen” ticketing listings, meaning they list big, commercial events; Oxynade, on the other hand, crawls through “thousands” of websites and offers a more comprehensive list, including small community gatherings that would never end up on a ticket site.

The round was led by venture firm Arkafund, with participation from Flanders-based seed investor Vinnof.
