Coast arts Festival set to mean business
THE Coast arts festival next summer hopes to combine art with business, in turn generating £2 million for the local economy.
The festival wants to see the local business sector playing a bigger role in next year’s event, and is setting up an online business directory on its own website.
As well as the major art fair in Macduff Town Hall, a food fair is on the menu for next year’s festival.
Festival director Danielle Daglan explains: “The website at www.Coastfestival.org.uk will be hosting an innovative and permanent online directory for all local businesses, including local and regional food and drink producers and suppliers, artists, retail outlets, accommodation providers, bars, restaurants and attractions.
“This directory will produce leads for businesses, and allow companies to be showcased.”
Ms Daglan said: “In order for Coast to grow and develop, attract bigger audiences and become a regular annual event of national and eventually, international importance, we need support from the local business community.
“Sponsorship, in-kind support, time, skills and discounted goods and services are some of the ways businesses can support Coast.
“In return, the festival is committed to ensuring that local businesses receive the maximum benefit of having such an event on their doorstep, making sure that businesses get as much exposure and publicity as possible, and encouraging festival visitors to spend in the area.”
Next year’s Coast Festival of the Visual Arts takes place in Banff and Macduff over the holiday weekend of Friday-Monday, May 22-25.
The festival seeks to deliver a nationally and internationally important annual visual arts festival to attract increased numbers of visitors to the Banffshire coast.
The Coast Festival Forum Group, director Danielle Daglan and the board of directors have spent the months since the last event evaluating, planning and fund-raising for 2009, and preparations are now well underway.
