THE Urdd Eisteddfod is to be staged on National Trust land near Aberaeron in 2010.

Eleven sites were considered for the week-long festival but the organisers have decided on the Llanerchaeron site.

Eisteddfod director Aled Siôn said: “The Urdd is very fortunate and proud that so many areas showed an interest and that numerous excellent sites were available to us. But, after careful consideration and consultation with various authorities, it was the view of the site committee and the executive, that Llanerchaeron was the preferred choice.

“We are looking forward to working with the National Trust not only locally in Llanerchaeron but also at a national level. The site within the estate is a splendid location and I’m convinced that this excellent location will be a major contribution to the overall success of the festival in 2010.”

This will be the fifth visit of the Urdd Eisteddfod to Ceredigion but its first visit in the Aberaeron vicinity. It has been held twice before in Aberystwyth and also twice in Lampeter, most recently in 1999.

About 70 acres of land are required to stage the Urdd National Eisteddfod which attracts 100,000 visitors and 15,000 competitors from all over Wales and beyond.
