Rock festival a casualty of airport seizure

| November 29, 2008 | 0 Comments More

A major rock festival scheduled for this weekend has become the latest casualty of the blockade of Suvarnabhumi Airport by anti-government protesters from the People’s Alliance for Democracy.

The Bangkok 100 Rock Festival 2008 had been billed as the biggest event of its kind in Southeast Asia this year by its sponsors, the beverage distributor Pernod Ricard (Thailand) Co, and Sky-High Network Co.

More than 50 local and international acts had been scheduled to perform over two days, including Manic Street Preachers, Hoobastank, Melee, Ash and Modern Dog.

Organisers said the closure of Bangkok’s two airports had made it impossible for international artists to get to Thailand.

As well, they said, the safety of both performers and the audience was a major concern.
